REVIEW & TESTING POLICY

Effective date: July 30, 2026
Last updated: July 30, 2026

The FTC’s endorsement guidance states that reviews should represent honest opinions and that a person should not claim experience with a product they have not actually tried. The FTC’s Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule also addresses fake, false, and deceptive reviews.

Prepared with Victor is committed to providing honest, understandable, and useful information about preparedness products and services.

This policy explains how products are selected, researched, tested, evaluated, scored, updated, and disclosed.

My Review Principles

My reviews and recommendations are guided by the following principles:

  1. Opinions must be honest.
  2. Material relationships must be disclosed.
  3. Personal testing must not be claimed unless it occurred.
  4. Product limitations should be discussed along with benefits.
  5. Safety concerns should not be minimized.
  6. Price and value should be considered from the perspective of an ordinary household.
  7. A company cannot purchase a predetermined positive conclusion.
  8. Affiliate compensation should not determine whether a product is recommended.
  9. Information should be corrected when reliable evidence shows that it is inaccurate.
  10. Readers should be able to understand how a conclusion was reached.

Types of Product Coverage

Prepared with Victor may use several types of product evaluation. The applicable method should be identified within the review whenever practical.

Hands-On Tested

“Hands-On Tested” means that Victor or an identified contributor physically used or examined the product.

The review should explain relevant details such as:

  • How the product was obtained
  • How long it was used
  • Which features were tested
  • The conditions under which it was tested
  • Important limitations of the testing
  • Whether the product was purchased, borrowed, or provided free of charge

Hands-on testing may not reproduce every emergency, weather condition, long-term storage period, or real-world failure scenario.

Researched Review

A “Researched Review” means that the evaluation is based primarily on available information rather than direct personal use.

Sources may include:

  • Manufacturer specifications
  • Product manuals
  • Safety documentation
  • Warranty information
  • Recall databases
  • Government or institutional guidance
  • Retailer information
  • Published laboratory testing
  • Verified owner feedback
  • Customer-support documentation
  • Reputable third-party testing

A researched review will not be presented as a personal-use testimonial.

First Look or Initial Impression

A “First Look” or “Initial Impression” is a preliminary evaluation. It may be based on brief handling, setup, packaging, specifications, or limited use.

An initial impression is not the same as a long-term review.

Comparison or Buying Guide

A comparison or buying guide may evaluate several products using published specifications, research, hands-on testing, or a combination of methods.

Not every product included in a comparison will necessarily have been personally tested. The article should describe the evaluation method when this distinction could affect a reader’s understanding.

Sponsored Content

Sponsored content is content for which Prepared with Victor receives payment or another material benefit specifically connected to publication.

Sponsored content will be labeled. Sponsorship does not permit the sponsor to require a false statement, hide a material limitation, or purchase an undisclosed positive conclusion.

How Products Are Selected

Products may be selected based on:

  • Relevance to household preparedness
  • Reader questions
  • Affordability
  • Availability
  • Product popularity
  • Potential usefulness
  • New or unusual features
  • Safety considerations
  • Claims that deserve closer examination
  • Gaps in existing coverage
  • Personal interest
  • Seasonal preparedness needs
  • Affiliate-program availability

Affiliate-program availability may make it easier to earn revenue from a review, but it is not the only reason a product may be covered.

Products Supplied by Companies

Companies may provide free products, samples, subscriptions, trial access, loaned equipment, discounts, event admission, or reimbursement.

When a material benefit has been provided, it will be disclosed within the relevant content.

Companies providing products do not receive the right to:

  • Demand a positive review
  • Select the final rating
  • Remove reasonable criticism
  • Prevent discussion of material limitations
  • Require a recommendation
  • Approve the final opinion
  • Hide the fact that the product was supplied

A company may be allowed to review factual details before publication, such as model numbers or technical specifications. Any corrections remain subject to independent evaluation.

Evaluation Factors

The importance of each factor varies by product, but evaluations may consider:

  • Intended purpose
  • Ease of use
  • Build quality
  • Reliability
  • Portability
  • Storage requirements
  • Maintenance requirements
  • Battery life or power needs
  • Capacity
  • Durability
  • Safety features
  • Instructions and labeling
  • Warranty
  • Customer support
  • Replacement-part availability
  • Price
  • Ongoing operating costs
  • Value for money
  • Suitability for beginners
  • Suitability for older adults or families
  • Realistic usefulness during common emergencies
  • Manufacturer reputation
  • Verified recalls or safety notices

A product that performs well in one category may not be appropriate for every household.

Ratings and Scores

When numeric scores, star ratings, rankings, awards, or labels such as “Best Overall” are used, they represent an editorial judgment based on the information available at the time.

Scores are not scientific measurements unless specifically identified as such.

A rating may change when:

  • A product is redesigned
  • Pricing changes substantially
  • A recall or safety notice is issued
  • New testing becomes available
  • Long-term performance changes the evaluation
  • Warranty or support policies change
  • The product is discontinued
  • Better alternatives become available
  • Material errors are discovered

Pricing and Availability

Product prices and availability can change quickly. A price shown in an article may not be the price available when a visitor reaches the merchant’s website.

Prepared with Victor does not guarantee:

  • Current prices
  • Inventory
  • Shipping dates
  • Discounts
  • Coupons
  • Warranties
  • Return policies
  • Merchant performance

Readers should verify these details before purchasing.

Safety Evaluation

Prepared with Victor may discuss safety features, potential hazards, recalls, instructions, and official recommendations.

However, product coverage is not a professional safety certification, laboratory certification, engineering inspection, medical evaluation, or guarantee of safety.

Readers remain responsible for:

  • Reading the complete manufacturer instructions
  • Checking current recalls and safety notices
  • Using products only for their intended purposes
  • Following local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Obtaining professional assistance when needed
  • Considering household members, pets, medical needs, and environmental conditions

Reader Reviews and Testimonials

Prepared with Victor may display comments, reader experiences, survey responses, or testimonials.

We do not knowingly:

  • Create fake reader reviews
  • Purchase fabricated testimonials
  • Attribute statements to people who do not exist
  • Present AI-generated statements as genuine customer experiences
  • Alter a review in a way that reverses or materially distorts the reviewer’s opinion
  • Suppress criticism solely because it is negative

Comments may still be moderated for spam, profanity, harassment, unlawful content, irrelevant material, privacy violations, unsupported accusations, dangerous instructions, or violations of the Terms of Use.

Publication of a reader comment does not mean that Prepared with Victor has independently verified every factual statement it contains.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial-intelligence tools may be used to assist with tasks such as:

  • Organizing research
  • Developing outlines
  • Checking readability
  • Comparing specifications
  • Transcribing recordings
  • Generating research questions
  • Editing draft language
  • Identifying information requiring verification

AI-generated output is not treated as independent evidence that a product claim is true.

Material conclusions, personal-experience statements, ratings, safety claims, and recommendations are reviewed by me, a real human, before publication.

Prepared with Victor will not knowingly publish an AI-generated product experience as though it were a genuine hands-on experience.

Affiliate Compensation

Some reviews contain affiliate links. Prepared with Victor may earn compensation from qualifying purchases or actions.

Affiliate compensation does not increase a product’s score merely because a higher commission is available.

See the Affiliate Disclosure for additional information.

Corrections and Updates

When a material error is identified, Prepared with Victor may:

  • Correct the error
  • Add clarification
  • Update the article
  • Change a rating
  • Remove a recommendation
  • Add a correction notice
  • Remove content that can no longer be supported

Minor spelling, formatting, or clarity changes may be made without a correction notice.

To request a correction, use the Contact Form.

Include the article URL, the disputed statement, and supporting information.
